About the winery
Tri Hony is a family winery that continues the vineyard heritage of the Michálka family, one of Modra’s largest winegrowing and winemaking clans in the early 20th century.
Today, the winery cultivates its own old vineyards in the Modra wine-growing area, spread across three vineyard sites: Dolné Grefty, Noviny and Téglik. A small portion of the grapes is sourced or exchanged with fellow winegrowers and friends. Annual production remains deliberately limited at just over 15,000 bottles, with the key varieties including Grüner Veltliner, Chardonnay, Riesling and Saint Laurent.
The winery describes its philosophy in these words:
“Our wines are a natural reflection of the vintage and the place they come from. We know we can only turn this mirror very gently. Each of our vineyard sites has its own character and its own voice, and every year we are happy to respect that. This is why our wines always express the vintage and, above all, the terroir of Modra – the place where they were born. That is also why you will find patterns from the 1895 cadastral map of the original Modra vineyard sites on our labels, corks and cartons.”
Tri Hony is based in a beautifully restored 16th-century wine house with an original historic cellar. This remarkable setting offers visitors a glimpse into centuries of local winemaking tradition, whose roots in the region date back as far as 700 BC.
